The Round-Up for 2/18/11: No Sleep 'Til Checklists Edition

I was going to wait until later tonight to write this, because I'm once again exhausted (sleep disorders +card sorting=very tired Scott Crawford), but damn it, I did all that sorting and cataloguing and scanning so that I'd have more to write about in the long run! I say the long run starts now.

Nope, I didn't actually open any Topps Tribute f00'ball, but somehow, I always end up with some singles from this sort of thing, and this numbered, crazy dead sessy Steve Young card is a welcome addition, even though I'm more interested in cards of Steve's predecessor. Scans never do this refractory stuff justice, but this thing is off-the-charts beautiful. Kinda like this broad.

(Yep. Another throw-in from the package that brought you this.)

Speaking of off-the-charts beautiful, this contest at Crinkly Wrappers qualifies. My mysterious benefactor moremonkeys138, who's sent me way too many awesome cards recently (you'll see 'em soon) is giving away a lot that consists of 59 cards, one card from each Topps year starting in '52 and coming all the way up to '11. He's short on '51s, so the full "60 Years Of Topps" won't be happening, but I think we can let that slide. Super easy to enter, and this prize totally wins, like this guy.

In other contest news, while I'm not entering this one (I've got the set, so I'd rather see someone else get it), Clear Cut Cards is giving away a copy of The Infinite Baseball Card Set Series 1! Anyone who reads this site knows how much I love this set. It's beautiful stuff, and I don't think any collection should be without it. A chance to own it for free should never be passed up, but if you don't win, you should go buy it anyway, because it's awesome and Gary Cieradkowski is awesome and yeah.

Speaking of complete sets, it is my understanding that the final 10 cards I needed to complete 2011 Series 1 base are on their way to me. How the hell did I do that so quick? Man, thank heaven for stores that break boxes and put singles out cheap, and thank heaven for people who just send me stuff. This gives me a little breather before Heritage comes out.

(Man, I wish the clip from "Airplane II" was up on YouTube.)

Apparently, I needed more of a little breather than I thought. 8 hours of sleep later, let's continue. Anyway, '11 Series 1 is done, but I'm still looking for some inserts, and like a few of you other poor, diseased souls, I am going to at least try to build the shiny set. Stuff in bold, as is the case on my want list, is stuff I have rather than stuff I want.

2011 Topps Diamond Anniversary (Shiny!): Have 1 23 66 78 93 101 108 111 112 153 207 219 224 271

2011 Topps Red Diamond Gems (Target): Have RDT12 RDT14 RDT15

2011 Topps Topps 60: 1, 3-4, 6-7, 9-23, 25-29, 31-35, 37-43, 45, 47-48, 50-60

2011 Topps Toppstown (Yes, I'm actually building Toppstown. I'm a nerd.): 1-2, 5, 10, 12, 19-20, 22-23, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34-35, 37, 40, 42, 46, 49

2011 Topps Kimball Champions Of Games And Sports: 2-7, 9, 11, 14-15, 17-18, 20-24, 26-27, 29-30, 32-37, 39-41, 43-50

Finally today, for those wondering, I do still have one more part left of my '51 Bowman series, and I am still working on the last $.21 of the $5 Challenge (I'm so totally not meeting the goal this month, but I think I'll try every month until I do), but I keep either sleeping through the ends of auctions or getting beaten to stuff. Hopefully I'll make the necessary progress on all of that stuff this weekend. I've also got some dealer perspective to share on the $5 Challenge soon, as well as a few trade and package posts and some other stuff. Stay tuned, as I've almost gotten enough sleep and my cards are sorted again!
