Skoormit: The Trade!

A few weeks ago, I posted about some numbered cards, which y'all seem to dig a bunch, and a fella named skoormit inquired about the Chris Young Finest numbered to 25. This deal snowballed a bunch, ended up including an '08 Goudey Brandon Webb relic, our pal Gus Niarhos, and an untold number of cards of players who were born in skoormit's native Alabama. Brace yourselves for the awesomeness that showed up in return.

Hey, it's Simba's rookie card! Another '71 off the list, and I'm getting closer to finishing The Compleat Topps Ted Simmons as well.

And now, for a rare appearance by a card back! ('71s get me every time.) Man, it's so weird to think that Ted Simmons was ever that young. Guy always had this world-weary look about 'em in the cards I remember seeing when I was growing up. This is a cool card, and a great way to start off a deal, but a 40 year old card is kinda new, don't you think?

Ahhh, that's better! '52 Bowman Oisk! Holy crap! It's always good to get more Carl Erskine cards, and this is a well-loved but still brightly colored specimen.

This card of Clyde King, on the other hand, not so much, but it's my first '52 Topps! The paper stock on '52s is absolutely amazing. Pick up a common on eBay and see what I mean, if you've never held one (and I hadn't, oddly enough). Plus, some kid really loved it.

And some kid, maybe even the same kid, really, REALLY loved his '52 Topps Rocky Bridges card. And slept with it. In a mud puddle. With the card stuck in the spokes of his bike. I'm totally on Bums overload already from this package, by the way. Three 1952 Brooklyn Dodger cards, and I'm just getting warmed up!

So's Johnny Podres! I'm actually starting to put a dent in the '55 Bowman Dodgers set. Not a huge dent, but I'm up to 7 cards now.

OK, now I'm at 7 cards. Gilliam looks like he's saying "Look, ma! I'm on TV!" here.

I'll be damned, when I typed up this post, I almost forgot a '55 Topps Billy Herman! This is my 3rd '55 Dodger now.

So, remember how I said that bit about Gil Hodges' first appearance of the week in my last post?

Well, here's the second.

Wow. My first playing-era Hodges. Off-center, worn corners and edges, AWESOME.  Today was a really, really good mail day.

But wait! There's more! Sandy Amoros not only snuck out to LA, but he snuck into this trade, too!

As you can all plainly see, skoormit completely and utterly spoiled me here. He's ruined me for other trades. Trade with him! Thanks so very, very much for the goods, skoormit, and I hope that what I sent you does at least a halfway decent job of measuring up to what I got in return!

Stay tuned, for later tonight, you'll see that there was even more awesome in store for me today.

  1. Look at all dem Bums!

Glad you like 'em, and thanks much for the trade. Let's definitely do this again.

  2. Hey, thank you! I'll keep an eye on your trade list and keep you posted.
