The Year Of Dicks, Day 6!

Slept late today, trying to get rid of the cold I managed to avoid all through December. It's gettin' there. Enough about me, though. Let's talk about Dicks!

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting Dick Harter, our first basketball Dick!

Dick was a lifelong basketball coach (our second Dick in a row who had 45 years in one job or another), but his stint with the Hornets (about a season and a half; he was their first head coach) was his only head coaching job in the NBA. Prior to his 27 years or so of work in the pros, Dick had nearly 2 decades of college head coaching experience, working with Rider, Penn (where he was a 2-time Ivy League champion), Oregon and Penn State. Amazingly, despite all of this time logged in one sport, this may be his only card. Thanks go to Stubby for quasi-Bipping me with the '89 Hoops set recently, or we wouldn't be featuring this Dick today.

Sadly, in addition to being our first basketball dick, this also is our first deceased Dick, but it seems like he lived a long, full life doing what he loved.  Dick Harter, we salute you, wherever you are!

  1. Oh lord, thanks for reminding me of those abysmal years of the Charlotte Hornets. I'm glad the Hornets name is coming back next year, I just hope this Dick doesn't come back too!
